Moong Dal Khichdi
Moong Dal Khichdi is an excellent Vata pacifying dish as it is warm, grounding and nourishing in nature.
It is easy to digest and comforting and an ideal meal for people with disturbed Vata element.
Cooking Time – 30 – 40 mintues

Ingredients –
* 1 cup – Basmati Rice (Rinsed)
* 1/2 cup – Split Yellow Moong Dal (Rinsed)
* 4 cups – Water
* 1 tablespoon – Ghee
* A pinch of Asafoetida (Hing)
* 1/2 teaspoon – Turmeric powder
* 1/2 teaspoon – Coriander powder
* Salt to taste
* Cilantro (finely chopped)
* 1/2 inch – Ginger (grated)
* 1Green Chilli (optional)

Instructions –
* Pour some ghee in a large pot or pressure cooker. Add some cumin seeds, turmeric, asafoetida, coriander powder, grated ginger and chopped green chilli. Saute for a few seconds.
* Then add the rice and dal and stir well. (It is advisable to soak the grains for 30 minutes prior to cooking as it becomes easily digestible)
* Pour in water and salt.
If you are using a pot then boil it on low flame for about 20 – 30 minutes.
If you are using pressure cooker then cook it for 3 – 5 whistles.
* Serve it hot garnish it with cilantro and add ghee to balance taste and Vata pacifying effect.
